Halltown Memorial Chapel Association receives 2 additional grants

The Association is pleased to announce that it has been awarded two grants from the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation. Both grants will be dedicated to restoration work on the masonry and concrete foundation of the Halltown African-American Free School.  The  Free School restoration also is being funded by a matching grant from the West Virginia State Historic Preservation Office.  The Association thanks these organizations for their support. Restoration work on the Halltown Memorial Chapel is ongoing, and we are awaiting the installation of the restored stained-glass windows. The Association thanks the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s “Preserving Black Churches” grant program for supporting the Chapel restoration. This is an exciting time for the Association, its members and community supporters!
